Organisers of a major education conference at Halls Gap’s Colonial Motor Inn next month are urging Wimmera teachers to make the most of the event. They say the Wimmera Education for Sustainability Forum on November 20 represents a rare opportunity to gather information usually only available at presentations in major cities. Wimmera Catchment Management Authority and several Wimmera natural-resource management education providers are joining forces to present the forum, the first of its kind for the region. Wimmera CMA community education officer Bronwyn Bant says the forum will help teachers educate Wimmera children about sustainability issues. “This is too good an opportunity to miss for anyone teaching science, biology, art – a whole range of subjects, and caters for both primary and secondary teachers. Parents or school-support networks with a keen interest in sustainability are also more than welcome,” she says.Ms Bant says forum participants will be involved in presentations and workshops designed to provide teachers with inspiration, ideas and skills in sustainability education. An address from Arron Wood, 2006 United Nations Outstanding Service to the Environment award winner, will be a highlight of the event. Wood holds a degree in Forest Science and is the youngest Board Member of Port Phillip and Westernport Catchment Management Authority.
