Our Programs

Aerial View of Wimmera River The Wimmera CMA works with the community and partner organisations to manage projects and programs that aim to improve the overall health of the Wimmera Catchment. A catchment is an area of land bounded by higher ground wherein rainfall flows to a single low point. In the Wimmera, we have 2 distinct catchments:
  • The Wimmera River - running from the Pyrenees and the Grampians in the south to the terminal fresh water lakes of Hindmarsh and Albacutya in the Mallee.
  • The Millicent Coast Basin (West Wimmera) - contains over 3000 wetlands from the SA border to the Natimuk and Douglas areas.
The Wimmera Catchment comprises farm land, waterways, public parks, reserves and the plants, animals and people who live within it. Changes to one part of the Wimmera catchment can affect the whole region. That is why it is important to monitor the health of the catchment as a whole, rather than in parts.

GrapevinesWimmera CMA plans actions guided by research and local knowledge and has identified a range of strategies and projects that identifies assets and monitors threats to the health of our catchment.

The management of our region’s assets are maintained through three key programs. Click below to find out how Wimmera CMA actively works with partners and the community to achieve sustainable and productive use of our region’s natural resources:
