Property Management Planning

What is Property Management Planning?

Planning is not about predicting the future; it is about being prepared for it.Soil Sampling

Property planning provides an opportunity for landholders and their families to spend some quality time together developing a greater understanding and appreciation of their farm.

It allows you...the landholder...and your family, to develop an understanding and appreciation of your resource - the farm. It can help you manage the personal, physical, and financial aspects of your farm business.

How can it help my farm?

Property Management Planning gives landholders focussed time and attention to bring together all the factors affecting viability and sustainability of their farms. This is achieved through applying your own knowledge and experience to a series of structured planning activities and resources including:

  • Developing a vision for your farm, evaluating risks and identifying potential opportunities. This can help create a future direction for your farm.

  • Developing a greater understanding of soils, their potential for production and risk of degradation.

  • Use of the latest aerial photography and contour maps that can guide you through the process of designing your future farm (you can choose to work in digital or poster formats)
  • Finding ways to improve workability, sustainability and profitability.

  • Providing landholders with information about accessing funding programs for environmental work on individual properties, such as Property Enhancement Grants.

  • In the process of undertaking Property Management Planning, participants can select and nominate guest speakers and topics of interest.

Where is it being delivered?

Property management Planning is being delivered by Wimmera CMA in consultation with the Department of Primary Industries Farm Plan21 Program. The course generally runs over 6- 7 three hour sessions by skilled facilitators with farming experience. The course is offered across the whole Wimmera CMA catchment with a priority preference to the upper and south western catchments.
