Wimmera River Flow Changes

Releases from Taylors Lake have ceased due to improvements in water quality along sections of the Wimmera River. Water quality parameters continue to monitored, if deterioration occurs releases will recommence. Releases for the Burnt Creek and MacKenzie River continue through to early March.

December flows

Flows are planned for the lower Mt William and upper Burnt Creek as well as the MacKenzie River through to Wonwondah up till late December.

Low flows are being delivered for the MacKenzie River from Laharum to Wonwondah for approx. two weeks to refill refuge pools to protect native fishpopulations given the lack of flow since June.

Mt William Creek Flows

Flows are commencing for the Mt William Creek from Lake Lonsdale to replenish refuge pools given the lack of flow since December.

Wimmera River flows will be recommencing 6 January from Taylor’s Lake whilst flows for the MacKenzie River and Burnt Creek will cease in early January and recommence in mid-January.

Flows will commence this week for the Wimmera River from Taylors Lake initially followed by Lake Lonsdale to refill refuge pools and improve water quality prior to summer after natural flows finished in early Oct. All flows will cease before Christmas and future updates will notify when they recommence in January.

Environmental flows for Burnt Creek and MacKenzie River ceasing this week due to cooler weather conditions and related lower evaporation rates. The need to recommence flow in these systems will be determined by weather conditions in the subsequent weeks. Flows for the Wimmera River are planned to conclude at the end of June and are unlikely to recommence until spring

Releases for the upper Mt William Creek at Mokepilly are commencing to fill up refuge pools to protect native fish.
