The Wimmera Waterway Strategy provides a 10-year plan for ensuring the health of waterways for future generations.

We are developing a new 10-year action plan for rivers, streams, wetlands and their floodplains.

Public consultation on the draft Wimmera Waterway Strategy and its Implementation Plan closed on 18 May 2026.

The Strategy provides a 10-year action plan for rivers, streams, wetlands and their floodplains. It sets the direction for protecting and improving the health of the Wimmera region’s waterways, supporting healthy environments, cultural values, and community values and benefits.

We thank community members, groups and organisations who took the time to share their feedback. This input is important and will help ensure the Strategy reflects local knowledge, values and priorities.

We are now reviewing all submissions and will use this feedback to refine the documents. Next steps include submitting the Strategy to the Wimmera CMA Board and then to the Minister for Water for consideration for approval.

Updates on the Strategy’s progress will be shared:

If you have any questions or would like to discuss the Strategy, please contact us on 5382 1544 or email wimmerawaterwaystrategy@wcma.vic.gov.au.
