Why Join River Detectives?

River Detectives is more than an education program—it’s an opportunity for students to become environmental leaders. By adopting a local waterway, students learn how rivers support life and why they need our care.

They explore topics like water health, ecosystems, and cultural connections, while developing skills in science, maths, literacy, and sustainability.

The program encourages curiosity, teamwork, and a sense of responsibility for the environment.

What Are the Benefits?

Participation is completely free, and the learning experiences are rich and meaningful. Students conduct water quality testing throughout the year, using real data to understand the health of their local environment. These activities link directly to curriculum areas and provide authentic contexts for learning. Beyond the classroom, River Detectives fosters community connections—schools often work with Landcare groups, councils, and Traditional Owners to restore habitats and learn about cultural practices.
